Tropical Gardens is comprised of professional, team-oriented employees that keep this company on the cutting edge of progress in the tropical plant business. Positions available now: Commissioned sales person- to sell and deliver plants to our friendly customers on established routes. Weekly or bi-weekly travel and good driving record required. $20-40K. Salary during training (approximately 3 months) transitioning to commission. Salesperson 1: (Bi-weekly route) has potential to earn $30,000+ per year. Salesperson 2: (Weekly route) has the potential to earn $40,000+ per year. Some routes will require more than 40 hours per week. Options to work every week or every other week. Qualified candidate will work an assigned route following training; 3-5 days overnight weekday travel required. Specific days and hours vary by assigned routes.Minimum Requirements
Experience: Training will be provided. A profile of our existing sales force includes individuals with backgrounds and/or previous experience in commissioned sales, route sales, military, customer service, floral design, horticulture, retail sales and plants. Many of our sales personnel have had no previous plant knowledge or experience. Qualifications: Confidence; high self-esteem. An interest in plants is helpful. Ability and willingness to travel. Typical schedule for Salesperson 1 position (work every other week) involves leaving Sunday and returning Friday. The typical schedule for Salesperson 2 (work every week) involves leaving Monday and returning Thursday. Both, Salesperson 1 and 2 schedules include loading their truck on Sunday. Duties and Responsibilities of the Job: Plant Salespersons sell and deliver tropical houseplants, blooming plants, and supplies to retail florists, interior landscapers, garden centers, and full service grocery floral shops on and established route(s). Duties include: sales and delivery; invoicing customers; collecting payments; soliciting orders; providing customer service; completing routine paperwork; loading orders and products available for sale on the truck; ordering products the customers will need in the future via the sales order/manifest process; selecting greenhouse plants and hardgoods to perfect load and fill special orders as needed; maintaining plant quality and showroom neatness of truck, providing feedback on products, customers and vehicle(s); attending sales meetings; and setting goals to improve performance.Benefits: group health insuranceCompany Profile: Tropical Gardens is a professional quality/high end tropical plant wholesaler that carries over 500 varieties of indoor plants ranging from the 2 1/2" terrarium plants to 20-foot trees for interiorscaping. We also handle garden accessories, fertilizers, insecticides, pottery, wicker, saucers and pot covers, leafshine, soil and charcoal. Tropical Gardens has been in operation since 1978 and incorporated in 1983. Our service area includes: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Our customers number in excess of 1000 and include florists, greenhouses, interiorscapers and mass merchants. Delivery of our product is accomplished with our fleet of showroom sales trucks, complete with skylights and self-contained heating. Our Wisconsin facility offers 40,000 square feet of greenhouse space and 20,000 square feet of office and warehouse with an additional loading dock facility. In Florida, we have a sister company with a complimentary 467,000 square foot facility. Our current mode of operation is through showroom-style trucks that are 20% loaded with pre-sold items and 80% loaded with available product for customers to choose from. Our phone sales team calls route customers with a selection of items the week before the truck is scheduled to arrive. Our greenhouse crew packages and manifests plants to each salesperson's section. Trucks are loaded and leave Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. Product delivered is invoiced at the customer's store. Any available product is chosen by the customer upon the truck's arrival. Trucks return Thursday or Friday. Any remaining product left on the trucks is off-loaded by the greenhouse crew and put away in the greenhouse.
